UHI STEM  

Building Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) skills are vital to the future of the Highlands and Islands. The University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) are committed to the promotion of STEAM subjects and careers, developing a STEM workforce aligned with business needs and economic growth in the local area as well as continuing to address equity of opportunity, with rural and gender as particular areas of focus.  

UHI STEM Development (Outreach) Programme  

This is a really exciting time to join us as we have been gifted generous development funding from industry partners over a 3-year period (2023 – 26) which has enabled us to expand our bespoke ‘Lend a Lab’ STEM engagement model across the UHI region based. The new STEM Coordinator (Outreach) posts are based with our local academic partners (further education colleges and research institutes) with the aim of coordinating and enhancing our STEM network and activities with other STEM partners organisations at a local level.  

We are seeking individuals with the interest, enthusiasm, and skills to undertake this post STEM Coordinator (Outreach) for UHI NWH – Northwest (Dingwall & Ullapool) on a part time basis of 0.37 FTE (13 hours per week). This post is one of 12 x STEM Coordinator (Outreach) posts, collectively these posts plus a small ‘core’ team make up the UHI regional STEM Team. This new UHI STEM Outreach programme commenced in 2023 and runs to summer 2026, so we would ideally like you to join us asap.

Pay and Benefits

This role has been job evaluated as a Grade 5 on the UHI pay scale band and is a part time position of 0.37 FTE post (13 hours per week). The full-time starting salary for this position will normally be in the range of £26-28K. Salaries are pro-rata for part time posts.

This post is funded part time 0.37 FTE, and fixed term for period and will run until end June 2026 with the start date agreed with the successful candidate. However, we are looking for flexibility in working pattern and there may be consideration of annualised hours available.  Please note that there is no guarantee of further employment after the expiry of this term.

This post is subject to a Disclosure Scotland Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme check, so please let us know if you are currently a PVG scheme member.

Full-time posts carry a total of 33 days leave per annum (pro rata for part-time posts). It is practice that, with the exception of a Christmas and New Year closure, leave may be taken at any time of year, subject to the requirements of the post and department and with the permission of your line manager.
