Dr Brian Michie MBE – ⅓ of a century in Emergency medicine.

Come and join us where Dr Michie, will reflect on his extensive career and the evolution of emergency medical practices over the past thirty-three years. He is a distinguished medical professional with experience in emergency medicine and general practice. He serves as the Principal GP and partner at The Group Practice in Stornoway, where he oversees patient care and manages complex medical cases. He also holds the position of Medical Director for the UK-wide civilian Search and Rescue Service."

Dr Chris Macleod – Artificial Intelligence – be very afraid! 

Come and find out about the current revolution in AI - what has caused it and what technology lies at its core. How afraid should we really be? Chris started his career as a research scientist and team leader at Hughes Aircraft Company, working mostly in the USA. For 20 years he was a Senior Lecturer at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen where he was also the Director of Research in the School of Engineering. For the last 10 years, he has taught at UHI in Stornoway.

Dr Alasdair Macleod – Hydrogen and Wind – A Perfect Match?

Wind energy is highly variable, but a claim frequently made is that it is possible to turn a large wind turbine into a power source as reliable as a conventional power station by combining it with hydrogen generation. In this talk we will consider if this is really possible and explain the compromises needed if we are to live in a world powered only by wind.
