A change in direction brought me to the Highlands. Once here, I wanted to utilise my surroundings, align my outdoor passions with my profession, and officially enter the outdoor industry. This course has acted as a doorway into the outdoor community, providing me with skills and qualifications. I have experienced new sports and met relevant people in the industry and learned how important it is to interact professionally.
After completing outdoor leadership, I went into employment with Vertical Descents, working as a Canyon Guide. When the season ended, I completed my Mountain Leader and Climbing Wall instructor certificates. Due to the skills and qualifications I got while studying, I've managed some freelance work for companies instructing and guiding locally.
Next came full time employment as an Outdoor Instructor at Ardroy Outdoor Education Centre. I instruct groups on multiple activities e.g., hillwalking, gorge walking, abseiling, canoeing, indoor climbing, archery and many others.
I'm loving my life as an outdoor professional. I'm absolutely certain that I wouldn't be doing a job I love without the experience I gained from my time at UHI.
