Background
I was born and raised on Scotland’s west coast and started my career volunteering with the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme as expedition trainer then group leader. I fell prey to the strapline “Inspiring Adventure..,” while undertaking my Mountain Leader Assessment at Glenmore Lodge and moved on to multi activity instruction at various local authority outdoor activity and educational centres.
Developing my knowledge in programme design and adventure tourism I worked for Argyll and Bute Council to deliver their award winning series of outdoor activity programmes, Stramash, and assisted the organisation to transit through to social enterprise. Wishing to know more and delve deeper into outdoor education I returned to University and completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Outdoor Education from Moray House, Edinburgh University.
Former expedition leader for World Challenge, senior guide with Wilderness Scotland, Mountain Travel Sobek and National Geographic Adventures.
Academic Qualifications
MA (Hons) Geography, Glasgow University
PGDip Outdoor Education, Moray House, The University of Edinburgh
What is your main outdoor interest?
I am committed to delivering the highest possible learning experience for students, helping to engage people in the outdoors and attain their goals, be it in leadership, outdoor education or personal and social development using Scotland’s inspiring landscape and culture. Journeying and meeting people are my passions whether it be canoeing in Sweden, horse trekking in Mongolia, sailing in Greece or mountain biking in Nepal, discovering our natural world and inspiring those to challenge themselves inwardly as well as reaching over their horizons are my goals.
