About...
Environmental scientists participate in tackling issues such as global climate change, pollution, use of land and water resources and changes in wildlife habitats. This subject involves an understanding of scientific principles, economic influences, and political action. This course covers the study of areas such as the living environment, the Earth’s resources, and sustainability. You will develop your resourcefulness, creative thinking and learn how to analyse and solve problems.

Course content...
The course consists of three mandatory units and a course assessment. The units all allow you to develop skills of scientific inquiry, investigation, and analytical thinking along with knowledge and understanding in the context of the living environment.
Living Environment– Key areas covered are investigating ecosystems and biodiversity, interdependence, and human influences on biodiversity.
Earth’s Resources – This unit covers geosphere, the hydrosphere, the biosphere, and the atmosphere.
Sustainability – Food, water, energy, and waste management.
Assessment & Qualification
The course has two assessment components 2.5 hours written exam and a practical assignment.
You will need to attend a UHI Campus or Centre for prelim exams and to take part in a weekend of practical work in early January.
All costs for this weekend are to be met by the student no assistance with travel or accommodation is available.
A suitable centre for the practical work will be chosen at a later date (this may not be your local centre).
