Basic Welding Skills SCQF 5 (Stornoway) Certificate

What is special about this course?

Are you looking to start a new career in welding or simply explore this craft? This BASIC welding course will equip first-time welders of MIG and MMA with the fundamental knowledge and skills to weld. 

Entry requirements

No formal entry requirements

You will learn the most commonly used welding processes of MIG and MMA (stick) welding work, practical instructions on the operation and applications, and the safe use and handling of the equipment.

Equipment

Candidates will be expected to have overalls and safety boots. Candidates may also wish to have their own auto-darkening welding screens for electric-welding processes, however, manual screens would be provided if necessary. All other PPE will be provided.

You will learn on campus through timetabled classes with your lecturer.

What can I do on completion of my course?

On completion of the course, candidates will be able to perform basic welding tasks, manage equipment to a competent standard and have a general understanding of health & safety procedures.
