Jewellery: Basic Techniques 2 SCQF 5 (Stornoway) NPA
What is special about this course?
The Group Award aims to provide candidates with a range of practical jewellery manufacturing and workshop skills which will provide a candidate with a good base of useful knowledge on which to build a career in the UK jewellery industry. The course is suitable for beginners.
Entry requirements
Entry to the award is at the discretion of the centre, however, it would be advantageous if candidates have an interest and an understanding of the disciplines in jewellery design and manufacturing.

Equipment
Students will need to supply their own saw blades and wet and dry emery paper. Depending on where they buy these, and how much they use will vary from student to student. The average cost per student would be approximately £30.

On campus - You will learn on campus through timetabled classes with your lecturer. Your learning could take place in a workshop, studio, classroom, specialist facility or an outdoor location. You'll use our virtual learning environment to access resources and complete assessments.

What can I do on completion of my course?
Completion of the NPA may provide a route to employment within the jewellery industry or successfully articulate to higher-level courses
such as NC, HNC, HND and ultimately on to degree level activity.

- Self-employed jeweller/designer working directly for clients
- Employed jeweller/designer working within the retail sector
- Bench jeweller based in a manufacturing environment
- Bench jeweller based in a repairing/servicing environment
