Rachel Erskine - former student and now Lecturer

Dr Rachel Erskine was the first PhD student to graduate from Lews Castle College in 2005. Rachel is shown here with her Director of Studies, Professor Frank Rennie. Rachel started her PhD under the fledgling university when it was UHI Millenium Institute whilst working as a practice nurse at what was then Leurbost Surgery (now part of Langabhat Medical Practice). Rachels' PhD explored the relationship between depression and heart disease in patients across the islands of the Outer Hebrides. Rachel has since then become the Programme Leader of the MA Health & Wellbeing, Pg Cert Healthcare Quality Improvement and CPD Awards in Advanced Diabetes, Child & Adolescent Mental Health and Digital Health & Social Care.
