Eligibility
- 16 years+, current students, members of the Public.
- Participants 16 and 17 years old are required to submit a signed Parental Consent Form prior to the event.

Rules
Film content must adhere to the following rules and may incur disqualification from the Film Challenge:
- The completed film must be written and produced in the 24 hr time frame, on the dates of the event.
- The completed film must be between 3-5 mins in duration, excluding Intro title sequence and end credits.
- The completed film must include comment on the theme, include specific dialogue and prop.
- The completed film must include five seconds of black at the start.
- Rights should be cleared for all filming locations, cast, music and sound effects, in perpetuity, Worldwide. Any required attribution should be stated in the end credits.
- The completed film must be in English, or with English subtitles.
- No scenes of a sexual nature
- No gratuitous language
- No gratuitous violence
- No antisemitic comment
- No anti-racial comment
- Any content that may be a trigger to an audience must carry a disclaimer at the start of the film and a note of support organisation(s) at the end, including: mental health, suicide, self-harm.
- Only qualified drone operators to fly a drone. No drone flying permitted above the campus or adjacent buildings in the Alness Point Business Park, including The Dalmore whisky distillery warehouses.
- Any child actors involved, must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or chaperone and evidence of parental permission provided. Child actors are strictly not permitted to stay overnight at the campus.
- You are to submit your completed film (MP4) and evidence of rights clearances, along with Submission Form by 5 pm at the end of the 24 hrs, to: anna.mcpherson@uhi.ac.uk. Please allow upload time. Any late submissions will be disqualified.
By entering the 24 Hr Film Challenge, entrants agree to be bound by these rules and by the Film Challenge instructions.
- Judges are named on the website.
- The judges’ decision is final.
- The Film Challenge is open to anyone aged 16 or over. Entrants under 18 years must provide a signed Parental Consent Form.
- A cash prize will not be given during the awards ceremony. Instead, the prize money will be transferred by BACs to the winning filmmaker, the week after the event. The prize money is not transferrable.
- The 24 Hr Film Challenge have the right to screen or exhibit those films which adhere to the Rules and Regulations. Entrants are responsible for all crew, cast, filming equipment, sets and props necessary for competing in the Film Challenge. Entrants are responsible for all costs, expenses, damages and claims related to these.
- The entrant will own the copyright to their own film and agrees that the 24 Hr Film Challenge has the right to screen, show, exhibit, broadcast including and not limited to theatrical release, broadcast television, cable television and/or the Internet and the right to publicise the winning filmmaker and Film Challenge using the names or images of and from the film.
- The entrant acknowledges that participation in the Film Challenge is without remuneration or compensation.
- Entrants agree that the Film Challenge is for recreational purposes only and there is no obligation for the 24 Hr Film Challenge to assign a winner or to screen your film if it is not suitable for screening.

Participants are to use their own filming and editing equipment. These can be stored in a secure place overnight, if required. Access to WIFI on campus will be provided.

Technically sound:
- Visual – exposure, picture quality, no artefacts.
- Sound – over modulation, wind noise, audio clipping, too quiet.
Narrative:
- Story – clear beginning, middle and end. Comment on theme, includes line of dialogue and prop
- Characters – believable performance
- Facts – information in a documentary must be factually correct
Post-production:
- Uses editing techniques, rhythm and pace of editing, uses the medium of film well.
Unique:
- Innovative storytelling
- Audience - appeals to a wide audience.

Prize Money
Prize money will be transferred by BACS the following week and will not be handed over during the Award ceremony.

Fire
Fire alarm training is not scheduled during the weekend, the event is taking place. On hearing the fire alarm, please exit the campus building immediately, using your nearest fire exit, leaving belongings behind and go to the Fire Assembly Point in the car park. The Fire Warden will check all participants are present and announce when it’s safe to re-enter the building.
Health & safety
It is the responsibility of the participant to carry out a risk assessment before any filmmaking activity takes place. It is the responsibility of the participant to follow the required safety guidelines when filming near water. No persons or animals should be put at risk or incur injury during filming.
First Aid
Two members of staff who are First Aiders will be onsite at all times:

Insurance
All Film Challenge participants are covered via UHI’s Public Liability insurance, while carrying out filming activities during the event.

Please note that during the Film Challenge, staff may be taking photos and recording video content to be shared via our social media and website for promotional purposes. The local press will also be invited to attend the event.
