Join us for this exciting and challenging event, bringing filmmakers and film enthusiasts together to explore beautiful landscapes and tell unique stories about the Highlands of Scotland!
Welcome to the 24 Hr Film Challenge, a competition in the heart of the Highlands where you will be challenged to showcase your creativity and filmmaking skills to create a short film in just 24 hours!
Participants will receive a theme, a line of dialogue and a prop that should be included, before planning, filming, and editing their short fiction or non-fiction film of 3 – 5 minutes. Films will then be screened and judged, with a winner chosen by our panel of experts!

Immerse in Highland Stories: Explore the enchanting world of the Highlands at the 24 Hr Film Challenge. Our Easter Ross campus, surrounded by nature, culture, and heritage, provides the ideal backdrop for crafting compelling stories about people and places. The nearby Cromarty Firth, a future green freeport, adds an extra layer with its focus on renewable energy, oil rig decommissioning, nature, and art.
Open to All Creatives: Whether you're a first-time filmmaker, freelance artist, current UHI student, or a member of the public, this challenge welcomes individuals and teams aged 16 and above. It's an inclusive launchpad for filmmakers, fostering a vibrant creative community.
Showcase Your Talent: The winning entry doesn't just earn a £500 cash prize and two complimentary cinema tickets from Eden Court; it also secures a spot at the Inverness Film Festival (IFF) 2024, hosted at Eden Court. It's a fantastic opportunity to showcase your work to a broader audience and connect with fellow filmmakers.
